    Summary

Lan Zhan had said he would come back in five months, before the maple leaves fell.

Lan Zhan had said he would arrive on the three o’clock train that Sunday.

So Wei Ying waited for him at the station that day, sitting on the last bench of the platform in his black shirt, his denim jacket, and the brand-new Converse he had bought for Lan Zhan’s return. A bouquet of peonies in one hand, Lan Zhan’s last message glowing on his phone.

When the three o’clock train arrived, he hurried to the front before the doors could open, smiling brightly enough for the whole platform to see.

He did the same the next Sunday.

    And the next.

    And the next.

Wei Wuxian did the same every Sunday.

    Every Sunday.

    For thirteen years.

In music, counterpoint is the art of weaving two independent melodies into harmony. Different, but inseparable.

Wei Wuxian has spent years trying to forget he was ever meant for more than dive bars and retail hell. But then a viral video, a pristine job offer, and a man with perfect pitch change everything.

Between live gigs and pedagogy exams, expectations and a few cans of beer, two people learn what harmony really means: finding someone who hears your chaos, and still chooses to call it music.

(Or: Wei Wuxian gets fired, gets hired, and accidentally falls in love with the most competent man alive. Not necessarily in that order.)

    Summary

“Hey!” Wei Wuxian calls, and he’s glad to have the man pause and slightly turn his eyes over his shoulder. The smile had not disappeared from his face through their entire, one-sided, conversation. “Don’t be too cold with the kiddos, you’ll make them cry!”

    “Ridiculous.”

His voice, deep and quiet, yet loud enough for Wei Wuxian to hear. His word was short and straight forward, authoritative and sharp, and yet, it made a shiver run down the poor tattoo artist’s spine. It should’ve been intimidating, but all Wei Wuxian could do was throw his head back and laugh.

“Oh, oh! You’re a funny one!”

Or: Carefree, Tattoo artist Wei Wuxian meets stone cold and strict, yet softy Teacher Lan Zhan. And both learn that it’s okay to not be okay while supporting each other.
