Summary
Werewolves were a social species.
This was a well known fact. The sky was blue, the rain was wet, and werewolves were pack creatures. The myth of the lone wolf was in truth nothing more than a fairy tale, a creation of humanity that was as incurious as they were imaginative. They spoke life into a story of self reliance and resilience, unwilling or unable to comprehend that such a life was nothing but a death sentence to a wolf - mundane or magical by birth. Wolves lived and died by the pack. A packless wolf was a dead one, or as good as. To wander alone, untethered to a community or family, was the greatest shame of all. It painted you as unlovable. It painted you as untouchable.
It painted you as other.
Gary Sanderson had never had a pack.

"'Bout time we got another reptile in here," Gaz says brightly. "Maybe now Cap'll finally invest in some proper heaters."
Soap chuckles, smoke leaking from his nostrils when he grins. "Ah'm plenty warm," he teases, drawing Gaz under his wing, the snake wriggling happily, his round pupils shining as his cheeks flush pink. He rests his chin on Soap's shoulder with a tiny hiss, content to curl around him and soak up the heat of Soap's fire.
"Ghost is out on a mission," Price tells him. "You'll only get to meet him when it's basically wheels-up, unfortunately. He's, ah, a bit of a prickly sort, but impress him and you won't have any problems."

Summary
Looking up at the night sky gives the impression that stars are cold— pinpricks of light of different tints and sizes. They aren’t, though. They are just as hot as our own sun, just tempered by distance and the vacuum of space.
Being one of those point of light means being careful not to burn the people you shine brightly for.

The base’s water heater, backup, and heating system all go out. A pilot light needs protection to survive.
