Summary
The following is the only known letter William Laurence, first companion of Temeraire, received during his time in prison for treason, written by George Laurence, the future seventh lord Allendale, when he was ten years old. It is remarkable that it survived, considering the extraordinary circumstances under which Laurence escaped this imprisonment. The letter was found in Admiral Laurences diary, folded between entries written twenty years after the escape in question. The paper showed clear traces of frequent handling.
