Olivia runs.
It’s raining, the storm is about two minutes away from completely talking over, the wind is howling and the rain is fighting her every step, but she runs, down the empty street, through the gate and to his door, harsh, heavy breaths leave her chest as rain beats down on her while she stares at the door.
She knocks before she can talk herself out of it. She’s come this far. She has to see him.
They can’t end like that. With him thinking she doesn’t care.
That’s she’s happy to be nothing to him.
She could have died today and their last conversation would have been that one.

Summary
Nancy opens the door before considering to check through the peephole, and she’s startled when the man in front of her is so far above her eye level. She takes a couple steps back and immediately regrets it when he takes it as an invitation to step over the threshold.
She recognizes him, of course. She wasn’t that young when Lonnie Byers finally left Hawkins. She never saw him much—she didn’t spend her tween years frequenting the bars where he must’ve spent most of his time—but she knows what he looks like. She thinks about him often enough, when she’s contemplating Jonathan’s tense shoulders and perpetual skittishness. (Mostly, she thinks about punching him in the face. Now that he’s here, that seems less doable).
