So-” His eyes dart away from Spock, flitting over the bed, the walls, the curve of the carpet, as if he can’t look at Spock while he’s breaking the news. “So I’m saying goodbye.”
“Ah,” Spock says, and regulates his breathing.

Alternate retelling of TOS episode "Whom Gods Destroy".
After a traumatic encounter with Garth and Marta, Kirk is injected with a serum that makes him severely ill. Now it's up to Spock and McCoy to find a cure in time. Spock will also have to deal with the Captain's growing feelings towards him.
