Summary
At age 7, Edward Brock lost his mom to cancer. His father was not abusive; it was not loving. As a matter of fact, it was not a father. It was never there.
At age 17, on his birthday, Edward Brock stole his father's car and went partying, before crashing into an 8-year-old, killing her on impact. His father paid a lot to cover the incident, but Eddie's incident was too big to ignore. No school in America accepted him, and no contact of his father in Europe wanted him. So his father sent him to Japan, to a new prestigious school where he could lay low, and come back once he was done with high school, where his life would continue like nothing happened.
At age 16, Ryuko Matoi came home to find her father dead, half of his Scissor Sword impaled in him, the other half stolen by his murderer.
At age 17, Ryuko Matoi made her way to Honnōji Academy, where she would hope to find her father's killer. She eventually found a talking sailor uniform and merged with him. The uniform was named Senketsu.
At age 17, Edward Brock made contact with a stray parasite that bonded with him. Its name? Venom.

Summary
For the first 13 years of his life, he was told he was a failure and a demon child. So he decided to bottle it up and instead hold himself up with the standard of being Hokage.
But eventually, after saving everyone from Pain, being Hokage was not the standard anymore. Now, if there was a problem, "we'll just wait for Naruto".
And after the war, it was not just "Naruto can do it", it's "Naruto will do it."
Marrying Hinata helped him cope with all of this, because being like he is, he thought that he couldn't just give up when so many depended on him.
But when this happened, not having his family and not having Hinata there just allowed those emotions to kick in again.
He fought the Akatsuki. He won over Kurama. He defeated Madara. He sealed Kaguya.
He hasn't tamed himself.
