Prompto didn't plan to have dinner with the king, but it actually went okay and now it's kind of a thing? How did that even happen? Luckily he's pretty good at just rolling with the punches. Now if he could just get Noct to join. -

The look Ignis graced him with was far too close to pitying. He set a hand on Noctis’ shoulder and squeezed gently before withdrawing it. “I rather wish he’d come to me if he felt the need to vent his feelings, but I suppose a chocobo would lend a decent ear, if one were so inclined.”
What. “I’m sorry...feelings?”
Ignis blinked at him, the steel in his eyes edging towards unimpressed now. “Is that not why you’ve been so attentive toward him lately?”

When Noctis overhears Prompto spilling secrets to his chocobo, it gives him a lot to consider, and really has him analyzing his own feelings for his best friend. Spoiler alert: he's probably just always been smitten. -

He plucks a little at the harness and looks back up at Noctis with a wide grin that leaks sunshine all over the sidewalk. “So...you were really taking her for a walk? Like a dog? In a little kitty harness?”
Noctis blinks. “...yes?”
The blond falls dramatically back onto his butt. “Oh em gee that is so cute!” Noctis oddly wishes he were talking about him. “Does she like...stop to climb trees? I feel like walking a cat would be a weird, 3D adventure.”
Noctis can’t help the laugh that escapes him. “It kind of is, yeah."

Also Prompto was raised by the mafia but he's still just Prompto because we love him that way. -

Summary
Being a prince is no walk in the park. Prompto really only gets to see the aftermath of Noct's royal training, but he'll always be there to give his best friend all the support and love he can. Which, frankly, is quite a lot.

"On the other hand, Prompto was tired and lonely, and would most likely never see Noctis again once they stepped out of the plane. So, he definitely spared a quick glance at Noctis’ lips - dammit, nothing about this guy was fair - which was probably not at all subtle. Whatever. When he ended up alone in whatever hotel room the airline would provide for him, it would be nice to think back to this moment and imagine that maybe there had been more between them."
A volcanic eruption forces all airports in Lucis to close one after the other. Prompto hasn't slept in 36 hours; he's had a really shitty year, and when his last chance plane has to turn back to Tenebrae, he wonders if he'll eventually be able to catch a break. Then he meets the gorgeous stranger sitting next to him.

Summary
Prompto fosters a cockatoo, and she acts as the catalyst for a lot of things.
For example, when he catches Noctis cuddling her and telling her that she's beautiful, it is, without a doubt, a contender for the most adorable thing Prompto has ever seen, but there’s a weird undercurrent he can’t shake. Prompto knows he’s not great at feelings in general, but especially his own, so he tries to just… not spend too much time analyzing them, but… is this jealousy? Is he jealous? Of the bird?

When he was sixteen, he had a very uncomfortable conversation with his Dad about what he was looking for in a Delicium and how he wanted to go about the appointment of one. “I don’t know, just do what grandpa did." He wished he'd been more specific, because now he's stuck with something that ended with a week-long painful experience of forced socialisation and awkward staged events. And then at the end of it he has to pick the guy he's going to spend the rest of his life having sex with!
