Summary
Dick always told Jason he was like one big huggable teddy bear.
Jason didn’t know much about the teddy bear part, considering he shot out kneecaps on the daily, but he knew he was big. 6’3”, built like a goddamn fridge, all muscle and skill—he could probably crush skulls if he tried. He couldn’t figure out why Dick would see all this and think cuddly.
But Jason didn’t entirely mind. He only pretended to, because how could a Bat ever just say what they feel?
But he liked it. Liked how he could somehow make his siblings feel safe. Even if each and every one of them knew the sheer violence he was capable of, they always came right to his doorstep when they needed comfort. Even Cass—deadliest of them all, silent as the grave—had a way of curling into him like he was made of something soft.
So today, when his little birds started dropping into his kitchen one by one, all in need of warm food and hugs, he didn't turn them away. He could never.

“What,” Hood laughs, the sound coming out sharp and metallic. His hand doesn’t waver. Trained, and trained well. “The old man tossed you out?”
“I left,” Cassandra corrects him. “I killed. Batman doesn’t kill.”'
After the events of Batgirl (2000-2006), Cassandra finds her way home to Gotham and looks for an ally in the mysterious Red Hood. She ends up with a brother instead.

Summary
Jason ended the argument by punching her.
It didn’t actually hurt, of course. Their father had taught them better than that. Jason had not even a little desire to hurt her, but the fact that the hit had landed was his final argument…one that not even Cassandra was stubborn enough to reject. “We’ll be fine, Cass,” Tim said, comforting, as she loosened her tight control on her breaths and let them rattle out of her chest. She felt wrung-out, like a wet towel. “There’s no major threats out right now, but we really can’t afford to let this case go cold. And Gotham needs a Batman.”
“Joker,” she wheezed out, too tired to be furious. “Still…out.”
“Nobody’s seen or heard anything from him since Bane was killed,” Jason assured her, patting her shoulder where he’d hit in obvious apology.

The soft hiss of a grappling gun made her look up. Nightwing came sailing over the edge of the roof, catching himself on then flipping off a fire escape. “Batgirl? Oracle called, said you sounded distressed—” He broke off, finally seeing the body obscured by her hunched form.
Cass looked up at her big brother, strands of hair stuck to her sweaty face. “Save him.”

“Here.” Jason pushed his plate of fries towards her. Cass stared at his potato offering with a frown before looking up at him. He huffed and tried to ignore Dick’s appraising stare. “You need to eat more.”
“He’s right. You’re as thin as Tim.”
Cass had the decency to look offended. “Rude.”
Dick grinned at her. “You’re starting to sound like him too.”
Or, the bat siblings are continuously learning to be a family that demonstrates their love in all different ways a family can. They grow and heal together.
