Summary
Kate Bishop is figuring it out, even with a post-battle concussion and the bleak future of a mid-20s possible dropout student. Her biggest concern should be the mounting emails and whether she can afford her caffeine addiction on a maybe-millionaire's budget.
Then Yelena Belova shows up at her coffee shop with a new haircut and a reminder about all those promises Kate made—free drinks, New York tours, and quality time that doesn't involve anyone getting thrown off roofs or jumping through windows.
Kate's not sure if this counts as a social call or a very polite threat, but either way, it looks like she's about to become Yelena's unofficial guide to Christmas in New York. Even if it is January

“Yeah, unless I don’t finish my degree.” It’s a grumpy little mumble, barely meant for Yelena, but she responds to it nevertheless.
“What do you mean?“ she demands. “You only have a small amount of time left! Why would you stop now?”
“I don’t know,” Kate murmurs, and Yelena is bewildered to hear a faint echo in her own emptiness, coming from nearly six thousand kilometers away. “I just don’t really know what to do now, I guess. Clint says I’m the new Hawkeye, but that’s not official or anything. And even when it is, it’s going to be a lot of training. So I’m waiting to wait, or something, and — and I don’t know why I’m talking to you about this, actually.”
“Sometimes, it’s nice to just talk,” Yelena thinks and then says. “But I don’t think you should drop out of school, Kate Bishop. School is cool.”

“Okay. What’s your name?”
Lena’s response is knee-jerk. “None of your damn business.”
Supergirl runs her fingers through her hair. It sticks up wildly near her temple, and Lena can see a slight cowlick. It’s strangely humanizing. “Look, my boss isn’t going to like that I’m working with an unknown as it is. If we’re going to work together, I at least need something to call you.”
When Lena shakes Supergirl’s hand, she feels the warmth of victory when the hero seems shocked at the firmness of her grip. But alarmingly an even stronger warmth radiates from their joined palms, spreading up her arm; Lena pulls her hand back faster than what’s generally considered polite, curling it into a fist.
“You can call me Kieran.”
