“What are you talking about?” Grace's fingers played quick chords as he spoke. He didn’t even look as he did it, but it did not make them any less purposeful.
“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

She worked under Dr. Lamai on the coma bed technology, was tall and imposing with long brown hair and a symmetrical face that others categorized as “pretty”—which Grace only knew because he'd overheard some lab techs comment on it one day. He never had the eye for that kind of thing.

We shouldn't have come here.
I knew that. Gurathin knew that.
But we were both fucking stupid, and the second we heard that there might be a way to fuck over the Company, just a little bit, then we just had to take it. Which is how we ended up here. Running through the back corridors of a shitty station, and trying to get on a transport before Station Security realised that our travel passes were fake as shit.
Or, I put MB and Gura back in the whump meatgrinder as they try to escape yet another CR station.

Summary
Hogan sends Merlin to Whiteridge to answer the duchy's request for reinforcements in their struggle with the undead. Merlin promptly gets lost at sea and ends up trapped in Stormy Strait, a place plagued by gang wars, graveborn pirates, and a kraken. Unable to call for reinforcements, Merlin has to deal with this alone. Oh, also with this new guy.
