Phil loves his life, he loves being a Mercedes Formula 1 driver and he loves being PJ’s teammate, friend and neighbor. He loves the routine he has going on. He lives in a perfect bubble.
But now that bubble is about to burst when the news that PJ is leaving Mercedes hit the tabloids. And worst of all, his replacement is Red Bull’s two-time world champion Daniel Howell, who has a reputation for having a little bit of an ego.
Phil isn’t exactly happy about this.

Phil lounges on his back, laptop on his thighs playing the newest video from his favourite YouTuber. His grin is impossible to hide anytime he watches something new Dan has posted. He’s unbelievably proud of how far Dan’s come in the last few months of posting videos of his own, and this time is no different. Phil laughs at a quip and his phone begins ringing. His heart leaps into his throat – he hates phone calls.
It nearly stops when he sees who’s calling. He slams his laptop shut and presses the answer button.
“Dan?”

“He went to turn to stare at his boyfriend’s pretty face but as he moved, arms tightened around his abdomen and a nose nuzzled adorably into his hair. Phil let himself relax into the embrace, wanting Dan to catch up on the sleep he clearly needed after such a busy few months. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to sink backwards into the safe hold of his boyfriend and the soft mattress underneath him.“
