No one has ever seen Light’s soul, but it haunts his dreams as a monster: eyes bloody as sunrise, feathers tasting of citrus and sharpie fumes, breath hot as summer and twice as brutal. At first, he thinks the notebook itself is his soulmate. Then he tells himself Misa can be enough.
L ruins everything. For the first time, someone sees Light’s soul, and through his eyes Light knows it must look monstrous – why else would L be hunting him over it?

And in his third, too-long life, L died anticipating finally getting even with the man who'd won their game one too many times.

Summary
As summer draws to a hot and sticky ending, a new café-concert singer performing under the name La Suédoise holds the imagination of Paris in her golden hands. Little does the city know of the strange music that lives in her head. Little does the city expect what will happen when the source of such music confronts the young chanteuse in front of a packed audience.
