Summary
“I guess there’s something,” he finally said, though it felt very strange and tight and vulnerable in his throat as it emerged. He coughed, shook his head. “It’s not, like. Important to me. So if you think it’s weird, that’s totally fine, and we don’t have to do it.”
“Oh thank god, a concrete suggestion. I thought I was going to have to get out the pliers. Spit it out,” Rodney said, gesturing impatiently with his hands.
His hands. His very nice, very clever, very competent hands that John had spent six years zoning out on as they tapped against bulkheads and pointed to whale fins on the horizon or clipped wires or clutched tablets or stole fries from his plate. Not particularly big hands, or masculine hands, even. Almost pretty. Delicate. The one refined feature of a man otherwise defined by slouches and frowns and thready muscle hidden beneath layers of indistinguishable softness. “Uh,” John said, second-guessing himself. “I dunno. It’s really weird.”
or, John confesses, Rodney accommodates with shocking enthusiasm.
