Summary
James frames it as a simple getaway, an informal get-together with three of his older friends and Keith as the newest addition. With the conversation starting less than twenty-four hours before winter break officially begins, there's not much time left for Keith to think it through before he accepts the invitation. College is all about trying new things, right?
Forget the fact that he and James were sworn enemies less than two years ago. Ignore how Keith is the odd one out, the broke ex-foster kid forging his own way as an adult agreeing to spend a week with the wealthiest people he knows. Don't think about the years of history between James and his friends, and definitely don't compare it to the maybe one good year James and Keith have had together... not to mention all that came before they made amends.
What's a week of sharing a remote cabin in the woods between friends?

The young man stared at him, shocked.
"You... don't you remember me?" he asked, finding it simply inconceivable.
And Lance, in other circumstances, would have been amused by that reaction, but there was a little girl he had to bring back to her mother; he hadn't slept for almost twenty-seven hours and needed a break.
"No, dude, now if you want to excuse me..."
The boy turned Lance to him, their faces a short distance away, purple eyes fixed on his, and Lance's treacherous heart skipped a beat.
"Blue Spirit, I'm Red Warrior. Do you really not remember me?"
At that point, Lance began to break out in a cold sweat. Of course, he couldn't remember him. Lance wasn't the real one.
(In which, due to a stupid stunt, the seventeen-year-old Lance dies and finds himself in the body of a villain of his best friend's favourite graphic novel, trying not to attract too much attention. Too bad for Lance, Keith doesn't make things easy for him at all.)

Summary
Seven years ago, Lance went missing. The Garrison informs them of this a week after his disappearance. Under the guise of military confidentiality, they're given hardly any details about the event. All they know is that Lance had snuck out one night, got into a fight with some personnel dealing with some top secret mission, and then promptly vanished.
Just like that, seven years pass. Lance turns eighteen, then nineteen, then twenty, and then they stop counting. At twenty four, he comes home.
Or: Seven years after leaving Earth, Lance comes home, but there's a part of him still left in space.

Lance, at a loss and not getting anywhere with his attempt to convince the green paladin, slowly, painfully removed his hand from where it rested on his neck. He was still optimistic that the bite truly was nothing but your regular, run-of-the-mill injury. However, Pidge’s choked gasp crushed any hope he had in an instant.
“Pidge?” Keith muttered, sounding as hopeless as Lance felt.
“You…he…!” Pidge took a sharp breath just as Hunk appeared in the clearing once again, along with Allura, Shiro, and Coran.
“Keith claimed you!”
