Summary
It was well-established knowledge amongst all their brothers that if they did something that made Makalaurë suitably upset, he would retaliate by playing his pipes very early outside the offending brother’s window.
However, while Maitimo was certain that he had done something to earn this assault on his ears, he could not for the life of him figure out what it was.
(In which Maitimo is the latest victim of Makalaurë’s early morning bagpipe playing.)

Summary
Aragorn had not lied when he said he saw something of himself in Maerel, understood the need to lick one’s wounds in solitude. A teenaged Estel had found nothing more irritating than the well-meaning but bothersome attentions of his mother, foster father, brothers, and teachers, sometimes all at once, and he was none of those things to Maerel. Perhaps a teacher, if he took a more direct hand in her training, but he feared the appearance of favoritism almost as much as she did. The Chieftain could not be perceived as partial to any one Ranger or trainee, especially not one newly adopted into the House of Aranarth.
Maerel of the Dúnedain returns home to resume her training among the Rangers, where she must navigate new challenges, a new family, and the watchful eye the Heir of Isildur. Meanwhile, Aragorn tries to bond with the newest generation of Ranger recruits.
