“Caught your eye, huh?” he finally said, feeling like he was stepping into the mouth of a giant bear trap -- which was stupid and paranoid, but Kevin had made a long career out of stupidity and paranoia, and it had served him too well to stop now.
“I can see potential, Kevin.” Daniel’s hands tightened around his, and he led them over to the other “recruits” gently, like he thought they would scatter as they got nearer to one another. He paused just out of their earshot, turning back so that for a moment they were in a bubble of silent, still air. “And there’s something about you that strikes me as very special.”
