Uhura nods, silent.
Of course. Of course he fucking does. Because life couldn’t possibly only be cruel enough to deposit at Jim’s side the most intelligent, incandescent, and attractive man from here to the end of the universe - couldn’t simply make that same man loyal to a fault or attuned to Jim’s every move - on top of it all, life just had to drive Jim’s head into that same fumbling brick wall every single time. He can’t even be angry at himself, only disappointed. Jim should have known that what is most important to him could only ever have been Spock.

Summary
Trapped in a time between time, the crew of the Enterprise is scattered amongst a population of captured souls. Jim and Spock live separate lives while the world they once knew exists only in dreams and as ghosts.
