Summary
Will looked off into the distance ahead of them, focusing on the orange streetlight across the road rather than facing Mike who was doing mostly the same thing, sighing before breaking the silence,
"Do you remember that fall after graduation, when I wouldn't talk to any of you guys for like… two weeks, and I never left my house?"
Mike looked at him again, his eyes swirling with an emotion Will wasn't used to seeing on him.
"Yeah... You turned your walkie off, you never answered the door, you didn't answer or return calls. You had the rest of us really worried; we had to keep bothering Jonathan to see how you were doing." Mike recalled, still looking at Will who was staring into the distance, a silence beginning that stretched thin and tense for almost ten whole seconds before Will broke it again.
"I was planning on killing myself that week."

Summary
Will Byers moves away after graduation, going to college in New York with Jonathan, leaving Hawkins, Indiana and everything that came with it as a bleak memory (and occasional nightmare). Mike Wheeler can't bring himself to do the same. Mike writes stories about the entire party constantly, but he writes about El more. He writes about Will as much as he breathes.
Will and Mike had silently agreed to go no-contact right before Will left, one long look accompanied by silence being all they needed to know that this might be the end for them.
Will Byers doesn't find it too hard to move on enough to talk to other people, to fill in blanks. But what he does find hard, is finding someone he can really talk to. Nobody he meets will ever understand what happened to him in Hawkins from 1983 to 1987, nobody tangible at least. Mike decides Christmas would be a good time to break their no contact, calling Will nonstop and inviting him to a new year's party, one last trip to Hawkins, one more meetup. -

Summary
Everything was a blur once Angela and her posse of teens approached their table. He heard something about milkshakes, some half-assed fake compliment towards Mike, and suddenly someone is dragging him and El from their seats and into the colorful swirl of the rink.
“Why so nervous? We’re just having fun!” Angela’s fake honey-sweet voice consoled him before leaving him standing right in the center, her boyfriend dragging El along from the other direction.
“Stay put.” She patted his arm and skated off, the music cutting shortly after.“And this next song goes out to Lenora’s best twins, the queer and the snitch!”
Shit.
