Eddie is in pain. Suffocating, blinding pain. The kind of pain where your vision blurs and slows in and out. The kind of pain that has you clawing at your chest for breath. Eddie was familiar with this kind of pain. But never like this. He never knew he could feel this much agony and not be physically injured. Being shot hurts less than this. Watching Chris willingly walk away from him was something Eddie never knew he had to be prepared for.

“You’re gonna have to come in eventually,” says Sam, then he takes a deep breath and steps away from Barnes, back towards the club. “But it doesn’t have to be now.” Barnes’ eyes widen, and he goes utterly still. “I’ve got some conditions though, if I’m gonna let you go.”
A year after the helicarriers go down, Sam finds not the Winter Soldier, but Bucky Barnes, who's trying his best to live and not just survive while on the run. Sam finds him and keeps finding him, and eventually, Sam finds himself too.
An alternate take on canon where Sam and Bucky have been secretly meeting up since after CATWS.

Summary
After saving Eddie from the Upside Down, Steve hides him at his house while the party concocts a plot to clear Eddie's name. What Steve doesn't expect is how much he likes hanging out with Eddie as they get to know each other.
Under the looming shadow of the Mind Flayer threatening to destroy Hawkins, Steve and Eddie realize they're each grappling with their own darkness, from Steve's father's impossible expectations to Eddie's feelings of worthlessness.
Their friendship develops into something more even as the party prepares to fight Vecna and his monsters one last time. Steve must decide if he's ready to shrug off the rigid roles assigned to him and become his own person. Eddie must learn to embrace what Steve has been trying to show him every day since nearly dying: that he's worth saving.
Author's Note: This is basically me speculating what Season 5 might look like, with Eddie surviving and from Steve's perspective. Enjoy!
