They stare at each other, the moment stretching out infinitely, timeless.
Jing Yuan's fingers continue to gently card through Dan Heng's hair, his mouth curved in the slightest of smiles. This close, Dan Heng can feel the living heat radiating off him, sleep warm and enticing.
"You're back," Jing Yuan says, and Dan Heng would close his eyes to savour the sound of Jing Yuan's voice if he could bring himself to break eye contact. Instead, he draws in a deep breath, his heart filling with such a vast yearning that it hurts, all of a sudden.
He hadn't realized how much he missed Jing Yuan until this moment, when Jing Yuan is finally within arm's reach once more.
(Dan Heng and Jing Yuan are together now, both through their bond and by explicit agreement, but a new relationship is difficult enough to navigate without the vast expanse of space separating them. Despite the challenges, the distance between them may just end up unveiling unexpected revelations.
