Summary
From the moment they met her, Kris had always looked up to Dess. They thought she was the coolest girl in the world, and dreamed of being her friend, rather than just her friend's sibling. But once they get a little older, Dess begins making increasingly uncomfortable advances on them. Kris tries their best to grit their teeth and deal with it - her attention IS what they wanted, right? - and is left feeling increasingly upset, confused, and violated... culminating in one night that tears apart whatever friendship they had, forever.
Afterward, Kris is left to grow up trying to cope with the damage Dess did to them. They intend to carry that secret with them to the grave - telling people would just make things worse. Their friendship with Noelle goes down the drain, with them finding it hard to even talk to her, let alone go to her house like they used to. They turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to get by.
Or, Kris gets hurt, and slowly learns to rely on their friends a little more.

Summary
Sunny knew his friends would react poorly to hearing the truth. He thought he was prepared for that, ready to face the consequences of his actions after all these years in silence. He couldn't have been more wrong.
After his friends react far from how he had predicted, Sunny flees the hospital, heartbroken. Abandoning what little still remains of his friends and family, he leaves Faraway for parts unknown, turning to a life of crime to survive. It takes him two long years, but he eventually makes a life for himself on the streets.
...And then he gets a letter from Hero, asking him to come back to Faraway.
