Summary
First, Lan Wangji is met with the body of Wen Zhuliu and the startled gaze of Wen Chao. And, much to his own displeasure, he sees the confusion and bitter amusement in the smirk on Jiang Wanyin.
Then, of course, there's Wei Ying left. The one who'd laughed at him, who's staring at him now, clearly guarded, much less friendly than the Wei Ying who'd just sent him off.
"Wei-" he begins, but then the memories hit him.
Of Wei Ying dying. Or, at least, getting news of it. Of A-Yuan following soon after. Maybe even Lan Wangji himself, then, if he's here now. Was this part of dying?
After a secluded Lan Wangji hears the news of A-Yuan's death, he's soon pulled into the past with specific instructions to be honest - including telling the whole truth. Stuck in the moment wherein Lan Wangji encounters a Wei Ying fresh out of the Burial Mounds during the war, he must either learn to face the mortifying ordeal of being known, or face his fate in a loop, forever facing his worst fears.
