Billy never expected a lot at Christmas. He knew better than to expect a house shining with decorations, or a huge pile of presents underneath a real tree.
But there was always joy: Christmas cookies in the oven, Christmas records playing in the living room, Christmas movies on the television.
And, most importantly, Christmas lights on Christmas Eve.Until his Mom left.

Hopper laughs again, and then he pauses, and Steve swears he can almost see the cartoon bulb lighting up above his head.
"Look, kid, I don't know what you've got lined up for after graduation. College? Or a job? Something with your dad's place, maybe?"
Steve can only shake his head, already waiting for Hopper's look of disappointment, only it never comes. Instead he nods, satisfied, like a plan is coming together.
"Well, it'd be good to have another person down at the station who knows what we're actually up against," and then he snorts, amused, "And someone like you? Someone with a bit of common sense? Well that would make a hell of a difference too. I can't say it's always this exciting," he shrugs, "But it ain't a bad job. And you've got more potential than a hell of a lot of the rookies I've seen. You think on it, son."

Summary
Steve takes a deep breath and picks up the receiver, “Hello?”
The kitchen lights flicker once, so quickly that he convinces himself that he imagined it, and then there’s a crackling, a kind of static-y hiss against his ear, and the rasp of a voice, “Hey, I need, uh, police?”
There’s something familiar about the voice, something twitching at the back of his mind, the tip of his tongue, but Steve can’t quite place it.
“Hello? Anyone there? Please?” it comes again, laced with so much desperation that it has the back of Steve’s neck prickling uncomfortably, “I need- shit, I need help.”
AKA Billy is trapped in the Upside Down and somehow manages to call Steve's house.

Billy always knew his Mom was a little different from other moms.
Other moms knew all about things like how to get the grass stains out of white shirts or how to pack a lunch box so the juice carton didn’t squash the fruit and the tomatoes in the sandwich didn't make the bread all soggy.
And other moms remembered to make brownies for the bake sales, and to send their kids in the right costumes for dress up days and to bring enough money to the store so they don’t have to leave the candy behind.But Billy didn’t mind too much when his Mom didn’t know about those things.
Because his mom knew all about magic.OR

The whole thing got fucked so quickly. It would’ve been almost impressive how fast everything turned to shit if I weren’t the one who had to fix it. It started when the beacon didn’t launch on schedule and kill all these hostiles plus me. Then Mensah arrived, practically handing herself over as a hostage. Then Gurathin joined us on the wrong end of a weapon.
This was my real life.

An alternate take on the ending of episode 9 where the GrayCris crew end up taking Mensah, Murderbot, and Gurathin with them to extract information. Murderbot ends up travelling in the cargo hold with a drugged and injured Gurathin, and it must think up a plan to save them.Bookmarked by Glitter_Bug

The loneliness is starting to crush him, though, so one night he decides to take a leap of faith and log in to a forum for others like him. He just hopes that everything Steve said about him wasn't true and that there might be someone out there who could, in fact, like him.
Eddie is new to this whole scene, but he's eager to find a little and try it out. He knows he's got a lot to learn, just as he know RockEmSockEmRich.ard has some glaring red flags all around him, but he's pretty sure Richard is worth a shot. If anyone knows a thing about being manipulated and controlled, it's him. He just hopes he can help Richie heal, because otherwise all the fun socks he bought are going to go to waste... And the coloring books. And the toy cars. Maybe he's in over his head.
