Summary

A slow-burn canon twist starting from the first time Colin notices Debling noticing Penelope, setting off a lot of feelings he realizes were always trying to dig their way out of his denial. Pen is courting with the eye to marry well and keep her career, Colin is in love so big it is only dwarfed by the accompanying trouble, and Debling is not the only rival suitor. Lots of inclusion of Featherington and Bridgerton family members as the spectacle becomes a debacle with the goal of a wedding. WIP, not always that serious, and sometimes smutty/angsty.

Portia did not care, as long as the hurry to the altar was only as shameful as every other Bridgerton in recent history. Her next son-in-law could take the blame for his fervid love if he wanted praise for the more dutiful kind that made him bring flowers.
“Mr. Bridgerton is here to call,” Mrs. Varley announced. She smiled as she moved out of his way, clearly anticipating some version of affectionate greeting he would give to Penelope. And she paused in the doorway as he brought a wooden box up and opened it to show dueling pistols.
“Good morning,” he said. “I think it’s very important that the ladies Featherington know how to shoot. Not targets or paper on a wall - a person, if necessary.”

Colin looked up and saw Penelope push her hair back so she was not so cloaked by it. She was still reading, hurrying ahead of his teasing of the surprises.
“Undine sounds spoilt,” she said. “And the Knight is perhaps a little stupid.”
“She was innocent, which is different from being badly behaved,” he said. “And she had restored him in his heart, for he was wandering because a Duke’s daughter had cast him out of her hospitality. He had tried very hard to please the other lady, who was named Bertalda, and danced with her. He had asked for a token of her glove, and she told him he must adventure alone to the dangerous forest and prove his bravery. So he went, and ended up with Undine’s company instead, and she called this other lady very cruel and inconstant. She was too playful, but she meant no harm.”
“Men should be more discerning in the ladies they try to please,” Pen said coldly. “And they should draw better lines when the task is pointless, dangerous and at great cost to life itself.”

“What is this,” she asked. “Or this?”
She had both letters in her hands, both options freshly inked on the pages not yet dry. Penelope sighed. “I am indecisive. It is late and I am nervous. Writing helps me think,” she said wearily.

Summary
They would be engaged officially soon, and he would make sure his anger did not overtake his effort to show happiness would come from their match. The recent past was a blur of his own feelings muddling him, such that he had not even thought to add to her prized collection of novels. He had spoken of books but treated her like he did not know what things she liked to fill her hours.
Colin would try to reframe his knowledge. His old information was still correct, and he would ask questions about the Lady Whistledown situation. By the time of the wedding, he would know more how to guard against the trouble that might linger even after Lady Whistledown was gone. A general sense of dread was not helpful, and he was not giving up.
