Summary
Cyran has always been unnaturally obsessed with Merlin. That had been fine with Merlin if it stayed at snide remarks and dirty looks but that would have been too much to ask for. Apparently.
Merlin thinks it's going a bit far to tie them to an altar for a magic ritual, but apparently Cyran thinks differently. Though Merlin might be enjoying it a bit more than one would expect.

Mathias Shaw is young. He's not even fifteen, but he already had enough time to get to know and understand death better than many adults. He's also an Assassin, even when he is still considered too young to take on his first contract: his fate was set years ago and he believed himself to be ready for it no matter what it took.
Edwin VanCleef is also young and his hands are cold, but he had to learn as fast as he could. After all, all he wanted was to be a Stonemason.
Neither of them had been ready for the war, nor leaving their home behind, nor the uncertainty that took their lives and fates.
They also weren't ready to find the other among their own hopelessness.
