It’s much easier to convince those around him that he wants to be alone when he has no other choice.
Because Sherlock doesn’t call anymore, nobody does. Sherlock has John and John is more important because he is what people call ‘kind’ and ‘friendly’. No one sends him letters because there are no friends to talk to and his parents are still angry at him for lying to them about Euros so there are no celebrations he would ever be invited to.
