When Louis and Gabrielle awake to find Lestat gone and the threat of Akasha looming, they struggle to figure out what lies next for them. They decide to make the journey to Maharet's house in Sonoma to convene with the remaining vampires, but with uncertainty. The two find, however, that they have much in common, going beyond their wily maker.
