Somehow, the times when it was most difficult to forget that Crowley was a demon were also the times when Aziraphale found it most difficult to resist picking him up.
Aziraphale set his tea aside. He couldn’t help the way his tongue darted out, chasing the last trace of sweetness on his lips. He couldn’t help the way his fingers slowly, carefully, gently reached out, coming to rest without weight on those precious scales. A warmth blossomed in the pads of his fingers, unfurled through the palm of his hand, and slithered up his arm.
“Oh,” Aziraphale whispered. It was a bliss he hadn’t felt often outside of Heaven, a heat that was almost light filling him with the inexorability and measure of water swelling a sponge.
