Lockwood opened his mouth as though he was about to snap back with something even ruder, but decided against it. “I’ve got to get back to work now, but I’ll be seeing you around then. Karim, is it?”
“Not if I have anything to say on the matter,” George added, like he hadn’t dug the hole deep enough already to break his neck in. “I work alone, as should you. Most people our age here are dumb as bloody rocks.”
At that, Lockwood’s jaw actually dropped an inch. Probably wasn’t used to people being mean to him, George mused, though he wouldn’t be either if he had a smile like that.
