Because some connections run beyond this lifetime and destiny is not so easily escaped.This is a story of Sylus from Love and Deepspace, bringing together many of the cards, scenes, and calls (including the myth!) in a chronological order that makes sense to me. (I'm not doing every single Sylus related piece of content, but I'm doing a lot of it!) Think of this as taking the source material and adding in original elements to ‘fix’ what may be missing as well as adapt the story from a visual format into a fully written one. I'm hoping to give you a clear beginning, middle, and end.

You swallowed the knot in your throat and turned around, not because you wanted to face him—but because the weight of his presence demanded it.
“Not really,” you tried to sound breezy. Light. Detached. “I was just dropping something off—”

The sound of the lock sliding into place was too deliberate. Too calm.
Zayne shrugged off his lab coat. The stark white fabric fell in slow motion over the back of the chair, and then he rolled his shoulders—tight, tired, tense. You watched his fingers unbutton his cuffs, rolling up his sleeves slowly, with practiced ease.
Curtains drawn. Room dimming. Silence folding over itself.
“I sincerely hope,” he murmured as he walked toward you, past you, pulling each curtain shut until the room felt private, secretive—dangerous, “it’s not another envelope.”

Summary
Tim's dad is dead, killed by a boomerang to the chest, and Tim is an orphan now. He knows Bruce would adopt him if needed but he couldn't possibly impose himself on the Wayne's more than he already has. It's okay though, because he has a plan for this, he just needs someone to play the role of his estranged "Uncle Eddie".
Except... the guy he hires is weirdly concerned about his well being and Tim can't figure out why.
Meanwhile, Jason Todd is forced to reevaluate his plans for his debut as Red Hood, because, as it turns out, his replacement is a suicidal idiot who can't be trusted to stay out of trouble.
OR
Tim Drake fails to recognize Jason Todd, back from the dead, and hires him to be his Uncle Eddie to avoid getting adopted by Batman. Somehow this ruins everyone's plans.
