To Eddie’s surprise, Chrissy twists her arm behind her back and drops a neatly folded note onto his desk.
What are you doing after this?
Eddie stares at her neat, looping handwriting, unable to believe it is real. The thought passes through his head that this might all be a dream, but a quick pinch to the arm assures him that no, this is actually happening. Chrissy Cunningham is passing him notes in the middle of detention.
He takes his pen and scribbles out a response, trying to make his usual chicken scratch somewhat more legible.
I guess that depends on what you’re doing.

After a humiliating breakup, Chrissy has to navigate the every shifting boundaries of Hawkins High's social hierarchy for the last few weeks of senior year all by herself. That is, unless her new friend Eddie has anything to say about it.

He wraps his arms around her waist, lifting her up, and kisses into her neck until she squeals.
