Little is known about the exact reasoning behind the tradition of giving presents between friends and family during the holiday, though many scholars argue the gifts are meant to represent the gift given to the world upon a new Innocence's crowning. In the modern day, despite the quasi-theocratic nature of Innocents and their traditions, the holiday has become highly secularized, such that its religious origins are rarely examined by average citizens.
