Buck just got fired from is job as a firefighter for stealing the firetruck, having sex in said stolen firetruck and for being caught by his captain, while he was about to have sex on the roof of the firehouse.
Well, Buck can admit to himself that it's his own fault for getting fired, at least he thinks to himself, his day can't get any worse.
Buck like everything else in his life, should have been more careful, because he just jinxed himself.

Buck has noticed lately, that Eddie is looking at him more often then not with a puzzled face, which Buck can't decipher the meaning to.
Especially, after the day of the skateboard incident at Christopher's school, after Eddie talked to Buck about said incident, which led Buck to talking about the baseball player with one hand or after today when Buck revealed the adapted skateboard for Christopher.
It's because, Eddie is starting to realize that, Buck is not only able to guide Christopher whitout limiting him and his independence but, also other children with disabilities easily.
When, Eddie asks Buck, how he always knows what do with children especially, those with disabilities.
Buck gives Eddie a picture to Eddie and his face becomes serious and sad - and reveals something about his past that he never told the firefam.

"Why is he so self-sacrificing all the time?" Eddie asks.
Maddie nods. He looks back at her, only to find that her eyes are a little shiny — Eddie probably could have anticipated that she might get worked up about all this. And then, all at once, it's like she bursts, unable or unwilling to keep holding it all in. "I hate it too. I can't believe he was just so ready to stay there, to be Derek."
"Wait —"
"Like, after everything with Daniel? All he's done to learn who Buck is? He's just. Going to pretend to be someone else's kid?" A tear shoots down her cheek and she wipes it away with the napkin from before.
"Wait, wait, wait," Eddie says. "I'm confused. What are you talking about?"
Maddie sniffs and looks at him in surprise. "What are you talking about?"
Eddie visits Buck, then Maddie, then Buck again.

Summary
There is something so glaringly not Buck about the scene in front of him. That knot of dread becomes a boulder, plunging into Eddie’s gut and nearly knocking the wind out of him.
“Hey, Chris, wait here a second, would you?” Eddie’s already crossing the threshold.
“But, it’s just Buck-”
“Chris,” Eddie turns around, scrambling to collect the worries that are slipping through his internal defenses like a sieve. He meets Christopher’s gaze, his son no longer a boy but a young man. He doesn’t ask or demand. He begs. “Please. Please just wait.”
It’s probably fine. All a misunderstanding. Eddie is jumping to conclusions. Even at his worst, Buck would never—but if Eddie’s worries are well-founded, he would never forgive himself for letting Chris see what’s inside that house.
