When Jayce asked Viktor if he thought it was easy to cling to principals while his best friend died in his arms, he was unaware of the fact that he had asked him that hundreds of times before in different universes. Further on that, he was unaware that in some universes he even had an answer.
Or otherwise summarized as what would have happened if instead of solely Viktor dying from an illness, it was also Jayce.
