    In a Gotham without Batman, Bruce Wayne disappeared after his parents’ death and returned transformed by the unknown, caught between man and curse: the Poisonman.

    Through abandoned alleys and forgotten streets, some orphans cross his path, unaware if they have found a savior or a monster.

    As the city deteriorates and the Justice League watches, the question arises: is he an enemy, an ally… or a problem impossible to control?

    Gotham will never be the same, and the fate of the children who in this universe never became Robins is about to change.

    "Why are you here, Nightwing?" Superman's voice was calm but firm as he spoke. He didn't even turn around, all his attention on the man lying on the bed, gripping his hand. He touched him as if he were the most precious thing in the world. Dick didn't want to look: Bruce shouldn't be like this, immobile, surrounded by machinery.

    "I'm here for him," Dick said, standing in front of the bed, still looking at Superman, because he couldn't see his father Bruce in that way.

    Superman made a contemptuous noise, completely out of place for him, "And obviously, you're alone. Where are the others? Minding their own business?"

    Dick curled his lip, defensive. "Someone had to stay in Gotham, you know."

    "If my father had been saved from a cult that wanted to sacrifice him to an alien god, I'd be right there with him," the alien said angrily. "But apparently, he doesn't even deserve that grace, does he?"

     

    (Batman was a legend. Batman was invincible. But Bruce Wayne was just a man, and Dick wasn't ready to face the chance of seeing another parent die, without being able to tell him he didn't hate him.)

    You grow into the person who would’ve protected you as a child.

     

    Alfred finds himself left with a little boy to care for. Not just any boy, but a Wayne, destined for greatness like his parents. He does his best to raise him, and it hurts his heart - really it does - but sometimes that means discipline.

     


    Bruce knows he’s not good. Well aware that he deserved what Alfred gave him when he was a child. But now that he has children of his own, Bruce can’t fathom disciplining them like he was.

    That doesn’t mean Alfred was wrong to inflict those punishments on Bruce. Bruce deserved it. Just not his kids.

    Never his kids.
