Summary
Galinda and Elphaba met in 7th grade, and after a few weeks of bickering, they became attached at the hip. When they spend every waking second together, Elphaba develops her first crush on her best friend. Senior year, Elphaba confesses her feelings for Galinda. But when her confession results in an abrupt end to their friendship and leaves vague rejection in her wake, Elphaba has no choice but to let her go. Four years later, their paths cross again and Galinda still isn’t ready to admit how she felt. But luckily… her Elphie is patient.

Elphaba is going down the line, shaking each hand and trying her best to commit every name and face to memory. Until she gets to Galinda.
They lock eyes, Elphaba tries her best to read Galinda's expression before they explain to everyone that they already know each other. But before she can say anything, Galinda sticks out her hand and introduces herself as if Elphaba hasn’t committed the curve of each letter and the sound of each syllable to memory.
She smiles, a fake friendly smile, one you’d display for someone you’ve never met before. “Glinda.”
Well, technically, that is a new name.

“I just wanted to say I had absolutely nothing to do with the changes. I mean honestly, when they asked for recommendations I asked if I could be alone,” Galinda starts, gesticulating as she talks, launching into something that can only generously be described as a ramble.
More bewildered than anything, Elphaba can’t do anything but watch as words tumble forth from Galinda’s mouth, as she goes on and on, probably further attempting to absolve herself of any blame.
Suddenly, Elphaba remembers that she hasn’t actually seen who her roommate is…
And she’s got a sneaking suspicion that her assignment is standing right in front of her.
(Or: stage management should be easy for Elphaba, but the actors seem to go out of their way to make it difficult— namely Galinda Upland, her new roommate, hellbent on disrupting every inch of Elphaba’s carefully-laid routine.)
