Summary
Everyone has looked at least once at that blank mask and wondered “What kind of face is Dream actually making?”. They had come up with a variety of answers across the years: joy, pride, anger, disgust, mockery... Little did they know, they were rarely ever right.
These misunderstandings may be part of the reasons that landed him in Pandora's vault.
But afterwards, rescued from arguably worse than hell, effectively shut away from the world with his last allies, maybe it is time for some masks to be put down, for some secrets to show. Maybe it is time for Dream to allow himself to heal.
And to finally stretch these wings again. Out in the open this time._____

“Where the hell did you get that mustache, Sokka?”

Hakoda watches his children pensively. His gaze turns to the Fire Prince, who stubbornly refuses to look at any of them.
Hakoda remembers everything he has heard. His eyes wander toward the scar on the boy's face, making him wonder...
“How many times did Ozai try to kill you, Zuko?”
He realizes too late that he has spoken these words aloud. Suddenly, it becomes quiet around him.
And Zuko begins to count silently.
Or: Hakoda asks Zuko about his relationship with his father. Zuko answers far too honestly.

Summary
Zuko wakes up the first time it happens to the smell of burning flesh. He at first thinks it’s just a lingering memory, the vestiges of a nightmare he’s had many times, but then he hears the shouts and clanging of metal that accompanies it.
The telltale signs of a fight, right outside his door.
So of course he does the sensible thing and rushes toward the commotion without a second thought, still in his loose bedclothes and bleary-eyed from sleep. He practically falls out of the door, stumbling right into the middle of both the hall and the battle waging within it.
At this point, Zuko's no stranger to attempts on his life. He can handle it.
Or five times Zuko's friends save him from an assassination attempt, and one time they're almost too late.

Summary
AU where Zuko realises early into his banishment that Ozai is an abusive bastard who sent him on a wild goose chase. Iroh turns their decommissioned warship into a floating tea shop, and Zuko settles down as a tea server onboard the Jasmine Dragon.
And then, years later, the Avatar emerges from the iceberg.
And then Aang decides that he wants Zuko, the first good firebender he’s met this century, to be his firebending teacher - even though Zuko wants nothing to do with him.
