Summary
James stares at the scrap of paper in his hands. This equation could give him everything he’s ever wanted, everything that Silas had: power, money, security. But what good is any of that to Silas Holmes now as he rots at the bottom of a ravine? James could keep the formula. He would no longer be the poor little boy from Cork, doomed to suffer and wallow in obscurity. He could claw his way to greatness, yet a part of him knows that he will lose Sherlock in the process, no matter how he may try to avoid repeating Silas’s mistakes.
-In an alternate universe, James decides that Sherlock is worth more to him than the formula.

He runs a hand through his hair as different voices begin to bounce off each other, squeezing his eyes shut tight and focusing on James’s words that go in one ear and melt out the other uselessly. “Quiet,” He says in a tempered hush, barely audible. James looks up at him with a mild questioning look. Shaking his head and raising a hand, “No, not you. Apologies, James. I,” Sherlock sighs, “I thought I’d heard something. Do go on.”
OR: It's fairly safe to say that Cordelia's affliction could be hereditary. What if Sherlock descended into an episode after finding out some distressing information? And what if James, unequipped to handle one, tried to sort of help?

Sherlock doesn’t notice when James draws him in, pulling him in a fierce hug. He catches his breath, drinking in his scent, arms winding around James’s shoulders, pressing in as if trying to become part of him.
For the first time in weeks, the hallucinations haunting him take a step back.
