Summary
The first thing Lucy Chen sees when she opens her eyes is the police badge...The second thing that catches Lucy’s eye are his hands, which, once he brings them back together, are clasped so tightly that his knuckles press white through sun-tanned skin. His hands are broad, and he is sitting close enough that she can see small scars crisscrossing the backs of them here and there, close enough that she can see the way the light catches the light hair on his muscular forearms, propped against his knees. The light catches the hair on his head, too, which seems dirty blonde, maybe light brown if not in this lighting, but he is, and so his head is haloed in gold. The overall effect is one of gilding; he looks like he is made of something precious... Whoever this man is, it seems he has been waiting here a while. Waiting on her. With a badge.

Lucy get amnesia after an assault during a manhunt. She doesn't remember anything that's happened in the past five years...including joining the LAPD and meeting Tim. He remembers everything.

“Should I kiss you, too?” he asks, and his eyes flicker up to meet hers. He’s relieved to see that she’s just as affected by this as he is. Her pupils are blown wide, and she’s nervously twisting her hands together. “Because I’ll have to, while we’re undercover. It’s probably best that… that undercover is not our first kiss.”
Lucy nods and swallows, and Tim steels himself.
He’s standing a few feet away from her, but he can still feel her warmth. He can feel the way her body leans into his as he
steps closer, as if they’re drawn together by an invisible wire.Tim takes a deep, shaking breath in, and lets it out slowly.

Summary
As she gets closer, Tim is immediately drawn to her wide brown eyes; they are broadcasting her emotional state for everyone to see — some combination of eager and excited and nervous. The polar opposite of the cool and guarded expression he is careful to keep on his own face.
Angela turns to look at him, clearly trying to gauge his reaction before she whacks him with her bouquet and hisses, “That is your soon-to-be wife, Tim, not your new boot, so maybe chill out with the death glare. You shouldn’t be trying to intimidate her.”
Tim ignores her; he begs to differ. This woman is supposed to be his wife. Chosen by supposed experts to be his life partner, his perfect other half. He is sure as hell going to be assessing whether she measures up to his standards. The fact that he already knows all of this is bullshit honestly just makes him that much more inclined to prove it.
When she reaches the end of the aisle, she stops in front of him and tilts her head to smile up at him in this sweet, hopeful way that he simultaneously finds incredibly endearing and incredibly irritating — like he holds her fate in his hands, and she is counting on him not to f*ck it up.

Summary
Finally, he turns back to the bar, wordlessly pouring her a shot of tequila. He slides it across the counter toward her, lifting his own glass in a silent gesture of cheers before downing the amber liquid in one fell swoop.
Lucy questions momentarily if maybe this isn’t the best idea — if adding alcohol to the intensity of the anger and grief and resentment that is still radiating off of him will result in anything other than regret.
But again, she opts to stay quiet. If this is what he needs in this moment, this is what she will give him.
She follows suit, wincing as the harshness of the liquor slides down the back of her throat.
