What aquatic creature is approximately five feet long, possesses both dark scales on his back and pale skin on his belly, has fins and a full head of long dark hair, and has a dolphin-like tail?
Sherlock of course, and his brother Mycroft is only a few inches longer. They are all a bit shaken up when two humans get brought out to sea by the tides. The first one was easy to rescue on his own - kind of short, wasn't he? Not much bigger than Mycroft - but the second one was longer, heavier, and a bit grey at the temple.
Hm, Mycroft thought to himself. Maybe I should keep them.
Sherlock had much the same idea.

Summary
A snippet I wrote this morning between 2am and 2:25am.
Dragon John tries to show his new mate Sherlock their brood, the dragon eggs set to hatch in a few weeks. Sherlock can't stand the heat and passes out, so John (like a good husband) takes him to the dragon's home village to recover.
This is when Mycroft finds him there.
