Summary
"I do have a suggestion," John said, coming to take a seat beside her. She sat up and squared her shoulders. When John wanted to sit beside her, it usually meant the conversation coming next would leave her agitated and tired. "I think you need to produce an heir of your own."
Kiriona stared. Seconds of silence passed by with only her wide eyes and John's impassive glance. Finally, she burst into raucous laughter, going so far as to slap her knee.

Gideon Nav's 57th escape attempt works, but she stumbles right into God. Divinity kind of sucks. At least John lets her pick her own wife.
Harrowhark doesn't get a choice.

Summary
Gideon had no proof, but her gut told her that Cytherea was responsible for Sextus' death. If Harrow pursued his killer with the single-minded intensity that Gideon expected her to, then their paths were going to cross very soon.
"Text me," said Gideon. She was careful not to touch Harrow's skin with her own, lest she notice that Gideon was a little too cold, even for late winter. "I'll help with whatever stupid shit you're up to.”
[Gideon pretends to be human while assisting her childhood nemesis with killing a vampire.]

Summary
In the remnants of the Empire, Harrowhark Nonagesimus, former Reverend Daughter and Ninth Saint to serve a dead lord, doesn't know what to do with herself, let alone her former cavalier. So she responds by doing the only thing she can think to do: pushing her away, so they'll both have the chance to start fresh, with the promise that she'll come find her again when she's ready.
It takes some time, and tears, and trials. Quite a lot of all those things, if she's honest; healing is messy work. But slowly, slowly, she starts to get there. And when she's ready to make good on her promise, all there is left for her to do is find out whether there's still someone waiting for her.
Or, a tryptich about love lost, unearthed, and reconstructed.

Summary
There’s a knock on the door, but before Kiriona is given a chance to respond, it opens anyways.
The ghoul of a woman who enters Kiriona’s room is also her best friend. Ianthe’s pale plaits and lilac nightdress are a reminder of Canaan House, one which Kiriona doesn’t need right now, thank you very much.

Summary
Death number four was where things started to go sideways.
Gideon's breath was shaky, stuttering; she released it after swallowing bloody, salty spit, and she could even pretend that her breathing sounded like that from the act of puking, or from being light-headed, or–
Or anything, really, just so long as it wasn't–
Harrow, on her knees, hands shoved into Gideon's thighs to the wrist–blood leaking from her ears, now, her mouth and cheeks a nauseating, sticky mess. Black and sheeted, the blood crusted at the edges, clotting beneath her chin as that blazing hot pain pulled grunts of pleasure from behind Gideon's teeth. She must have made a noise; the pain was all encompassing, a hot, violent cacophony of suffering that appeared at first blush comprised of an impossible pressure against her throat–
But the pleasure was, somehow, worse.
-or-
Gideon doesn't die in the end, much to her chagrin.
