Summary
Their sort of priest, the socially progressive sort, followed the rules because the structure felt right. Because it gave rhythm and melody to a chaotic world.
The trouble was, sometimes the rhythm of the sacraments faltered when you applied it to the real world. Or when you applied it to certain smiles.
