“It has been a while,” Asami agrees.
The words feel suggestive. Her thighs press together instinctively, her eyes squeezing shut as if that might ease the ache in her chest and belly, the one that knows it has been far too long without her alpha. Time was supposed to heal. Time had allowed Korra’s scent to fade from their bed, from the mansion, from Asami’s skin and even her blood. Maybe the scars on their necks would never disappear completely, but they were supposed to fade, weren’t they?
Instead the scar feels raw again, exposed, as though the wound has been reopened by Korra’s mere presence.

“What a pity.”
It is like the entire world came to a halting stop. The wind, the sounds of the leaves, the echoes of the party, everything fades into nothingness. And Ei, Ei struggles to breathe, struggles to believe.
Hope hurts after so many years. Now she is powerless against that feeling that broke her heart so many times.
A pair of high heels clinks against the hardwood floor. The scent of cherry blossoms seems to have increased tenfold, enveloping every last one of Ei’s senses. She turns her slowly. A beloved face smiles right back at her.
Ei had prayed for so many years, she had carried on with her life while patiently waiting until hope turned into heartbreak, into pure, unbridled pain. And yet, seeing that face again now, all Ei can feel is relief.
Tomorrow has finally come…
