    It’s been years of this. Decades. Over a century. Vash can never escape the one he was born into this world with. The running, the hiding, it’s all for naught. He’s always right behind him, in front of him, under his skin like a poison with no remedy.

    Warmth, cruelty, apathy, it makes no difference how he handles him, either. Nai clings to him like toxic oil that won’t wash off. He ruins everything he lays those graceful hands on, disfigures it all beyond repair. An artist whose medium is flesh and blood. Falling ships and molten metal. And out of every anguished cry and shattered dream, Vash is his greatest work. His magnum opus.

    For that, he’ll never let him know peace.

    [He can feel himself regressing back to that angry motherless child. The one that wanted to hurt as much as he was hurting. It was something he always had to be careful with. Humans, with their fragile bodies, could never take the brunt of his wrath, nor would they deserve to. But Nai is no human. He’s an abomination, just like him — they’re the two halves of God’s greatest atrocity.
