Shushed words flow over him, lulling him to sleep, and it's only when he catches a subtle switch in the mood that his wolf bristles and yanks Remus back from the verge of unconsciousness. He doesn't move, but he tunes his hearing to recognize the buzz of words, which take the shape of Sirius' quiet, hesitant voice.
'Do you think she'll hurt the baby?'
Remus freezes. In the silence that follows he can hear his own frantic heartbeat. He can taste Regulus' uncertainty, too, and this is new. Regulus is always so sure of himself, and now he isn't, and the wolf doesn't like it.
'...I don't know, brother,' comes the answer at last. Sirius lets out a shuddering breath and shuffles, undoubtedly to press himself closer to Regulus.
