The door was heavy and wooden. It opened with a soft creak. The room inside was huge high-ceilinged, with warm wood-paneled walls and arched stained glass windows that tinted the sunlight amber and green. A black grand piano sat like a monolith in the center of the floor.
The boy at it looked like he belonged on a stage, or in a painting. Pale hair. Pale clothes. Elegant posture. He didn’t turn when the door opened, but the music stopped.
“You lost?” the boy asked, fingers still hovering above the keys.
Phainon blinked. “…Yeah.”
The boy finally looked over his shoulder.
Golden eyes like a storm behind frosted glass. Cold. Beautiful.
“Well,” the boy said, “you found the music building.”
