Sam snapped when he saw Benny come to rescue him in Purgatory. He's tired of letting Dean down. He abandons the trials, deciding to pursue a new plan of action. He's going to pull off something better than closing the Gates of Hell. He's going to fix everything for Dean. Dean just doesn't understand yet, but he will. Everything Sam does is for Dean. Sam is going to show Dean that no one has ever, will ever, or could ever love him as much as his Sammy does.
