Toni shut down, disgusted by how she had played into this. How she had added to the pain Shelby already felt. She had shattered a heart that was already broken.
Fatin was horrified. All she could see was Leah with an empty bottle of pills in hand. They had been taking care of everyone else, Shelby had fallen through the cracks.
Leah felt guilty. She had attempted this first. Had she put the idea in Shelby's head? Had she been too consumed by her obsessions to completely overlook someone who needed help?
Dot was furious. Shelby was her responsibility. They were from the same town, they had known each other forever. She didn't understand, she couldn't wrap her head around it, but it was on her.
Rachel felt hopeless. She thought Shelby had made it out the other side, that her faith had helped her stay on her feet, but now... If Shelby hadn't made it out of her grief and her pain, why would she?
