    Endings are hard.

    Someone far more bitter would spout things about monkeys with keyboards, the difficulty of loose ends, and then direct that same energy towards fans.

    But that’s not what makes endings hard.

    What makes endings hard is living with the conclusion of the previous story and carrying it through to the next.

    Anyone can have faith in the beginning: every question will be answered, every black hat will be thwarted, the heroes will ride off into the sunset, and everyone lives. But endings are the final test of the mettle of that faith. Not every question can be answered, justice does not always prevail, heroes can be broken, and Death comes for us all, eventually. The ink has dried, and there is no eleventh-hour deus ex machina to save the day, and make it all mean something the second the dust settles. I’m telling you, the hardest thing about an ending is to live with it.

    When the dust settled on Dean Winchester that day in Stull Cemetery, it was the last time he would see Bobby, Sam, or Adam. But not Cas. At this point next week, Dean and Cas will be at Singer Salvageyard. Both broken, both human, both living with this ending.
