She doesn’t think much of her interaction with Isshiki until she gets a call from the hospital over the weekend.
“Are you the emergency contact of Isshiki Satoshi?” she hears a woman ask, and she was about to deny it, until she realizes that Isshiki doesn’t know many people in Tokyo. Even so, why did it have to be her?
“This is Kinokuni Nene,” she replies, just in case there was some kind of misunderstanding.
Nene is Isshiki’s emergency contact. Except she didn’t find out until they call her. On top of that, Nene has no idea how Isshiki keeps getting himself into these situations that would warrant a visit to the hospital.

“What?” Nene glared murder out from under her blankets, only to find a panicked Isshiki standing in her room.
“Gah!” Isshiki exclaimed, horrified.
Certainly, that wasn’t Isshiki’s horrified scream about the current physical appearance of Nene, right? Because Isshiki should rue the day he decided it was a good idea to wake up Kinokuni Nene at eight in the morning. The next time he decided that it was a good idea, he better think twice, or Nene would bury his body in the middle of the forest.
“I have an emergency,” Isshiki says, turning his head and averting his eyes.
“What?” Nene repeats. Never let it be said that Nene was intelligible when it came to mornings.
Perhaps that had managed to snap Isshiki back to the matter at hand, who whispered.
“My mother is here.”
Isshiki’s mother decides to come to the Totsuki campus for a visit. For some reason, she is under the impression that her son is currently dating Kinokuni Nene.
All Nene wants to do is go back to sleep.

Turns out, Nene found Isshiki without having to look too far.
If anything, Isshiki appeared to be in high spirits, dolling out takoyaki by the half-dozen, quickly turning over the batter with a pick as it cooked over the pan. If Nene didn’t know any better, it was as though Isshiki was a seasoned professional takoyaki chef.
Isshiki too, noticed her standing in line.
“Nene,” Isshiki greets her, as though it was a normal occurrence of seeing her here.
“Isshiki,” Nene grits her teeth, reminding herself that Nene was out in public, and therefore could not tear Isshiki a new one.
“Takoyaki?” Isshiki asked, sheepishly.
Or: Under a lot of pressure to open his restaurant in Tokyo, Isshiki runs away to Gion. Nene follows Isshiki to persuade him to come back.

“Isn’t that Isshiki?” Rindou-senpai asks suddenly, pointing out the window, and Nene turns around to look.
Sure enough, it was Isshiki standing across the street, talking to a girl beside him.
Rindou-senpai waved from the window, but Isshiki didn’t see them, too engrossed in his conversation with the girl.
“Who’s that with him?” Rindou-senpai asks, and Nene squints, but shrugs when she can’t identify her. Probably another one of Isshiki’s Polar Star Dormitory kouhais that he’d been raving about lately.
Nene had thought nothing of it.
Until she sees the girl standing up on her tiptoes to press a kiss on Isshiki’s cheek playfully.
“Oh, Nene,” Rindou-senpai gasps, her hand over her mouth.
There was one thing Nene knew for certain all her life: Isshiki was her soulmate, and she was going to marry him in the future. But she never knew that might not be something that Isshiki would want.
